DECA hosted the 71th annual International Career Development Conference. The ICDC is DECA’s highest level of competition and encompasses career-focused competitions in finance, hospitality and tourism, marketing, management and entrepreneurship. Drawing more than 18,000 DECA students, advisors, alumni and affiliated businesspeople from all 50 states and around the world, the 4-day conference is the largest business competition for high school students in the world.
During the school year, approximately 120,000 of DECA’s 200,000 student members take part in the organization’s Competitive Events Program, where they vie with one another at local and state competitions. The events include real-life business scenarios and project presentations that are designed to test students’ academic understanding and skills development, as well as DECA’s overall program strength.
The Anderson students competed in a district competition against approximately 350 students with top students advancing to the state level. The State competition occurred in March with 62 Anderson High School students attending. The top four state winners put their talents to the test during the program’s final round of competition in Atlanta, Georgia.
The other ten students who qualified to compete internationally and attended were:
Christian Becker and Sean Schaeffer – Sports and Entertainment Marketing Team
Kirsten Johnson and Josie Lackmeyer – Hospitality Marketing Team
Ryan Faherty and Noah Von Holle – Sports and Entertainment Promotion Plan
Elle Painter and Megan Sullivan– Sports and Entertainment Promotion Plan
Gwen Flick – Advertising Campaign
