January 2010 Update

Happy New Year!!  The Scarlet Oaks Staff and Administrative team hope that all of you enjoyed the winter break and that the New Year brings happiness to all.  As the end of the 2nd quarter arrives, I realize that the 2009-10 school year is at the halfway mark.

Our seniors are already starting to show signs of the infamous “senioritis” but we hope that by working together we can keep them focused on their education and putting forth their best effort every day.  Our juniors also need to remember that they have the opportunity to participate in classes during their senior year which will allow them to earn both high school and college credit.  Their participation in these classes is dependent on their performance their junior year.  If you need more information about this opportunity, please contact your child’s counselor.

The Ohio Graduation Test results were received prior to the winter break.  All students have been notified of their performance and the Scarlet Oaks staff is currently working on intervention plans for our students who will be taking the tests in March.  Look for additional information to come regarding your child.

As we review our survey data, we would like to thank all of you who participated.  We hope to have this data available to you in the near future.  You can look at the results by clicking below.

December was a busy month.  The student body held a canned food drive throughout the month and provided for needy families in the area.  A group of our Dental Assisting students sponsored a Community Service project called Operation Smile to benefit children with cleft lip.  The staff member receiving the largest amount of money donated in their name, agreed to “Kiss a Pig”.  As it turns out Ms. Suzi Neise, Dental Assisting, Instructor, was the lucky staff person with the most contributions.  Ms. Neise “Kissed the Pig” at the end of the day on Friday, December 18th in front of the student body.  Congratulations are extended to Amanda Duenne, Mt. Healthy, Selena Clack, Glen Este and Lauren Stall, Reading, the Dental Assisting students who coordinated the service project.  Our Hotel students, along with their instructor, initiated a FCCLA Community Service project to provide winter coats to many of our students.  Scarlet and district staff members also assisted to provide many of our students and their families with gift certificates to help them have a wonderful holiday.

On Friday, December 18th the Scarlet Oaks campus was transformed into a Competition Arena.  All students participated in competitive events related to their Career Technical Organization.  Students were able to demonstrate the skills and knowledge they have gained while attending Scarlet Oaks.  Please check out our Upcoming Events to keep aware of our campus activities.
