Senior Naval Science JROTC Instructor

Qualifications:

·         Retired Navy personnel W-2 classification or above

·         Certified Navy JROTC Officer instructor

·         Must possess or qualify for Ohio Department of Education Military Science Certification

·         Bachelors Degree required



Additional Information:

Provides an environment for student learning and achievement through content planning and learning objectives while maintaining a military service certificate and complying with District and Ohio Department of Education requirements by performing the following duties.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.  Other duties may be assigned.

  • Follows prescribed curriculum using approved textbooks, workbooks and instructional materials.
  • Designs meaningful and sequential instruction and relevant learning activities to meet instructional goals.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of content, pedagogy and knowledge of students' competencies and interests.
  • Prepares and uses daily lesson plans and submits to administration in prescribed manner.
  • Uses support services and resources to enhance the teaching and learning process.
  • Plans the management of allocated budget for daily operations.
  • Creates an environment for success and fosters a love of learning while creating an environment where creativity and risk taking are valued and encouraged.
  • Teaches the prescribed JROTC curriculum.
  • Maintains positive classroom management by setting and communicating high, consistent expectations for learning and achievement.
  • Provides instruction in military drill and physical fitness.
  • Maintain active duty standards for physical fitness.
  • Organizes classroom and/or laboratory in a manner, which is conducive to learning.
  • Provides maintenance and security of the facility and equipment.
  • Manages the program/teaching supplies.
  • Promotes and maintains a safe environment as defined by district policies and procedures.
  • Assures appropriate supervision of students at all times.
  • Writes and updates lesson plans for JROTC curriculum and other preparation requirements.
  • Adapts learning activities to meet the competency level of each student.
  • Incorporates current practices from business, industry and education.
  • Communicates expectations to students and parents.
  • Clearly identifies and presents learning objectives to students on a daily, weekly, quarterly, and yearly basis.
  • Involves appropriate representatives from business and industry to support instruction.
  • Utilizes technology to enhance the teaching and learning process.
  • Reflects on and modifies teaching practices based on student learning and achievement.
  • Participates in professional growth activities.
  • Requisitions, surveys and secures all government furnished equipment (includes uniforms, training aids, books, drill rifles, air rifles, organizational equipment).
  • Follows prescribed district and campus polices and procedures regarding grades, assessments and other areas as specified by the building management team.
  • Maintains up to date knowledge of technology utilized by the district.
  • Plans extracurricular activities for the JROTC unit (Including color/honor guard ceremonies, drill teams, rifle teams competitive meets, field meets, field trips, mini-boot camps etc).
  • Attends service-sponsored training to keep abreast of current requirements of program management.
  • Prepares financial vouchers to the service for reimbursement of expenditures to the school, made in support of the JROTC unit.
  • Establishes and maintains contact with civic groups to obtain their recognition and support of the JROTC program.

Availability of Position:   August 2008

 

Salary Range:               BS-0: $37,218 – BS-10: $59,225

Placement on the salary schedule is commensurate with educational preparation and work experience in the field – 220-day instructional contract.
