Great Oaks students demonstrate their skills in FCCLA competition

Some students baked.  Some prepared meals; others served meals.  Some students created table and food displays.  Still other students demonstrated their skill in creating and giving lessons to preschoolers.

 

All were part of the Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) regional competition last week.  When it was finished, 29 Great Oaks students earned medals, and 16 began making preparations for state competitions.

 

The FCCLA events were held over two days, in two locations.  Hospitality events, testing students’ skills in creative banquet table design, meeting event set-up, hotel linen operations, guest room attendant/inspection were held at the Holiday Inn South in Springfield.  Culinary, food service, and early childhood education students competed at Scarlet Oaks.

 

The state qualifiers from Great Oaks are:

From the Diamond Oaks Early Childhood Education program; Alisha Hightower (Harrison) earned a gold medal in Concept Curriculum and Trisha Wahl (Harrison) earned a silver medal in the Language and Literacy competition.

 

From the Diamond Oaks Chef Training program; Michelle Langmeier (Oak Hills) won a silver medal.

 

From the Scarlet Oaks Culinary Arts program; the senior team of Sarah Bain (Batavia High School), Travis Lafferty (Mason), and Amanda Turner (Washington Courthouse) won a gold medal in Event Set-Up.  Jade Manning (Glen Este), a senior, won a silver medal in Pastry Arts.  The junior culinary team of Hunter Gutbezahl (Indian Hill), Marcus Johnson (Finneytown), and Elizabeth Neu (Princeton) were silver medalists. 

 

From the Scarlet Oaks Hotel Operations program; Andrew Schuur (Finneytown) and Matthew Thompson (Reading), won gold medals in Hotel Linen Operations.  Junior Keri Grove (Goshen), earned a gold medal in the Dining Room Attendant event, and junior Sheri Grove (Goshen) earned gold in Creative Banquet Table Design.

 

From the Scarlet Oaks Early Childhood Education program; Kenya Perrigan (Winton Woods) and Ayana Carson (Finneytown) earned gold medals in Concept Curriculum.
