Diamond Oaks JROTC student Jonathon Turner brought home a bronze medal with a 10th place finish in the Eastern Region 3-Position Sporter Air Rifle Championship at Fort Benning Georgia.
Turner, a Pre-Engineering student from Harrison High School and Cadet Christopher Foucht, a Commercial and Residential Electricity student from Oak Hills High School were the first Diamond Oaks JROTC cadets to qualify for the U.S. Eastern Region Air Rifle Championship since the establishment of the JROTC Unit in 1995.
Foucht finished in 39th place.
The students competed against Marine Corps JROTC students from 22 states in this year’s Eastern Region Marksmanship competition sponsored by The Civilians Marksmanship Program at Camp Perry, Ohio.
Cadet Turner went into this weekend’s competition at Fort Benning Georgia ranked 76th out of 828 Marine Corps JROTC cadets nationally and 47th of 425 cadets competing in the Eastern Region.
Jonathan’s 10th place finish and Chris’s 39th place finish put them both in the top 11 percent as marksmen of all Army, Air Force, Navy, and Marine Corps JROTC cadets in the nation.
