19 Scarlet Oaks Seniors Write Winning Essays

Nancy Libbee, Scarlet Oaks English instructor, reports that 19 seniors who are in her Postsecondary Options Communications course submitted winning essays to an essay writing contest sponsored by Creative Communication, Inc., and will have their work published in an anthology titled Celebrating What Is Important to Me. In addition, the students’ essays are being judged for the company’s Top Ten Essay competition, with prizes worth over $3,000.

Since more than 50% of the essays submitted by the class were accepted for publication, the class will receive a free copy of the anthology and the school is eligible for a $250 grant for the classroom.

Scarlet Oaks will be recognized in the anthology as receiving a “Writing Achievement Award,” which is given to the top 10% of the schools that enter the contest. The recognition is based on the number and quality of the entries accepted as published winners.

“The fact that Scarlet Oaks had so many students’ essays accepted makes a strong statement about our school,” said Ms. Libbee. “Our instructors have done a wonderful job in teaching quality essay writing.”
