The Gateway to Success (Gateway) program, which began in the fall of 2006, provides students who did not graduate from high school the opportunity to earn their high school diplomas and begin a career. The advantage of this career-based program is that students will complete coursework in a self-paced environment using on-line resources, software, and materials aligned to state standards.
This program is open to students between the ages of 18-21 who have been out of high school for at least one year and whose class has already graduated.
Learning takes place in a fresh environment - on one of the following campuses: Cincinnati State Technical and Community College, Southern State Community College or University of Cincinnati Clermont College, - which helps ensure student success. Students will work with the Gateway staff to overcome the barriers that have historically kept them from completing their diplomas and transition to continuing education such as college.Back To Top
A main goal of the program is for enrolled students to obtain their high school diplomas. In addition, based on career plans developed with their advisors, students may transition to postsecondary education programs.

Classes will be held at Cincinnati State Technical and Community College, Cincinnati, Ohio; Southern State Community College-North Campus, Wilmington, Ohio; or University of Cincinnati Clermont College, Batavia, Ohio. Students must provide their own transportation for the program.

Flexible class hours will be offered Monday-Thursday 8 A.M. to 8 P.M., and Friday 8 A.M. to 5 P.M. Students should attend a minimum of 15 hours per week and maintain regular attendance.

Because of the flexibility of the program and self-paced learning, students can enroll in the program at any time.

The length of time varies according to how many courses or State Tests students need to complete their diplomas. Time in the program also varies depending on how many hours students spend on their coursework each week.
Because courses are internet-based, students have the flexibility to work from home in addition to the time spent in the instructor-supported environment at Cincinnati State, Southern State or UC Clermont. Individualized Graduation Plans are developed with each student to ensure that every class counts towards graduation.

There is no cost to the student, family, or affiliated school district. Great Oaks provides the staff, equipment, and services necessary to assist students in meeting their goals toward obtaining a diploma.

Students must:
- Be committed to earning a high school diploma
- Be willing to attend until the diploma is earned
- Develop a career plan with the support of program staff
- Be between the ages of 18-21
- Be out of school for at least a year
- Attend the campus a minimum of 15 hours per week
- Maintain regular attendance
- Provide own transportation
