We also anticipate serving 5889 students in Great Oaks programs at our affiliated schools. Some of these classes include: Foundation courses in Technology Education, Information Technology, the Teaching Professions, as well as Family & Consumer Sciences.
Southern Ohio Alternative School Pilot
Great Oaks is collaborating with Southern Ohio Educational Service Center in a pilot project at the Clinton County Alternative School. We have applied for a grant to provide Laurel Oaks students with counseling and transitional services that were found to be successful in the Great Oaks Achievement Academy.
Occupancy/Use Agreement
The Board of Directors approved renewal of an occupancy/use agreement with the American Red Cross to use Scarlet Oaks for an emergency shelter in the event of an area disaster.
Facilities Update
Work is nearing completion on the Adult Education renovation, landscaping, and signage at Scarlet Oaks. Studies are continuing on ways to enhance the use of facilities at our Laurel Oaks and Diamond Oaks campuses as well as specific program areas.
Post-Secondary Options
Great Oaks students have the unique opportunity to receive college credits for their English 12 and Algebra coursework. Students who qualify will receive five-quarter hours of English or math credits at Hocking College. These credits can then be used at Hocking College or transferred to any Ohio state college. One hundred twenty-three students are enrolled in English and 74 in math.
Ohio Graduation Test (OGT) Intervention
Because of the importance of passing the OGT, each of our campuses has implemented specific strategies to ensure the success of each student. Campuses are using such tools as tutoring by academic aides, virtual programs, classes on test taking strategies and small group learning sessions.
Adult Workforce Development Enrollment - Term I
There was a 24.3% increase in enrollment over last year in full-time adult programs for the first term. Additional full-time programs include: Auto Collision Technology, Heavy Equipment Operations and Health Information Manager.
Articulation Agreement
The Board of Directors approved an articulation agreement with the University of Cincinnati. This allows students access to postsecondary credits for secondary work.
