Diamond Oaks Career Development Campus
Video
A video on WCPO’s Student of the Week was shown. Trevor Frodge - a senior student at Scarlet Oaks in Firefighting/Emergency Medical Service - was featured. Trevor is an outstanding student from Amelia whose goal is to one day teach firefighting. Trevor was also featured in the Great Oaks recruitment video.
Enrollment Applications Analysis
1346 new students have been accepted into programs at our four campuses. 169 students have also been enrolled in our full-time satellite programs. We presently have a pool of 244 additional applications to review for acceptance into our programs between now and August 1st.
2005 Summer Workshop
The Great Oaks Summer Leadership Workshop will be held June 9 and 10 at the Marriott Kingsgate in Clifton. The theme will be “Using Data to Support High Expectations in a Caring, Learning Community.”
Occupancy/Use Agreements
The Board of Directors approved renewal of Occupancy/Use Agreements with the Bricklayers Apprenticeship Committee, Plasterers Apprenticeship Committee and Cement Masons Apprenticeship Committee. These organizations will use portions of Warehouse 102B on the Sharonville site for classes.
Analysis of Bids for Renovating the HVAC Lab at Diamond Oaks
The Board of Directors approved bids for construction work on the HVAC lab at Diamond Oaks.
Feasibility Study
To ensure that Phase 1 of the renovation project at Scarlet Oaks goes smoothly, a team that includes representatives from the management team, public relations, associates, and contractors will meet periodically. The design for the adult division plan for Scarlet is nearly complete, and study of the Laurel Oaks campus has begun.
Simulated Materials and Workbooks for 2005-06
The Board of Directors approved the simulated materials and workbooks for 2005-06 that students will purchase as a supplement in their career programs.
Adult Basic Literacy Education (ABLE) Grant
The Board of Directors approved submitting a proposal for an ABLE grant to the Ohio Department of Education. The requested amount is $607,557 for FY 2006.
Salary and Benefit Package
The Board of Directors approved the Salary and Benefit Package for 2005-06. The salary schedules will be increased 3.4%. The cost of the self-funded health care and dental plans will not increase and the Board will continue to pay 76% of the policy costs.

Informational packets and forms for evaluating the President/CEO and the CFO were distributed to the members. Dr. Lorenz asked the Board to review the extensive information and return the evaluations to her.

Twenty-one Great Oaks Associates Retire
Great Oaks recently recognized twenty-one employees who have retired in the last year, or will retire by the end of the school year. These twenty-one associates have served the district for a total of 497 years.
CARF Reviewers Praise Special Needs Services
On May 2, 3 and 4 a three-member team reviewed the application for CARF (Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities) accreditation. This accreditation - which measures 137 standards - is necessary for us to provide services to agencies, and ensures that we are meeting the highest standards. Even though the final report will not be available for several weeks, the exit team praised the work of Great Oaks in providing services for students with special needs. They commended as exemplary Project SEARCH and our career passport.
Leadership Academy Graduated Fifteen Potential Leaders
Fifteen potential teacher and administrative leaders from Great Oaks and Butler Tech graduated from our Leadership Academy this year. Eight of these participants were from Great Oaks. Half of those who graduated last year are in leadership positions at Great Oaks.
Three Great Oaks Associates Recognized
Three associates were recognized for their accomplishments:
§ Gary Gebhart, Director of the Adult Workforce Development Division, was asked to be a member of the Blue Ash workforce development delegation to Ilmenau, Germany. The twenty-two-member delegation explored opportunities to collaborate and share knowledge about training and economic development.
§ Jim Dixon, Dean at Live Oaks, was recently honored by the Milford/Miami Township Chamber of Commerce for his many years of service to the people and organizations in their community.
§ Loretta Nickerson, Practical Nursing Instructor at Scarlet Oaks, was recently named Teacher of the Year by the Adult Division of Ohio ACTE.
