Lisa is a 2002 graduate of the Great Oaks School of Practical Nursing. Lisa
started her career in the health profession as a nurse's aide. While working one day,
she noticed a Great Oaks catalogue and immediately called for information.
She completed the enrollment process and was on her way.
Before she graduated, she attended a practical nursing job fair and got a job lead at
the 20/20 Juvenile Corrections Facility. Prior to seeking employment with
20/20, she worked as an LPN Charge Nurse at St. Margaret Hall for about 6
months. She wanted to pursue another avenue of nursing and remembered the
lead she had on a position with 20/20. She applied and was hired. She
worked there for about one year. Eventually, Lisa applied for a job as a
LPN supervisor at the Kenton County Detention Center. She got the job and
after one year was promoted to Director of Nursing. Lisa supervises eight staff
members including a medical deputy and office manager, medical file clerk,
and five nursing assistants. She is responsible for the health and general
well being for up to 500 inmates. She loves her job and being in charge.
She works Monday through Friday, no weekends or holidays and works close to
home.
Lisa is very interested in starting a home based medical transcription
business and is currently taking courses toward that. Her career goals
include completing an associate's degree in Nursing (RN), and eventually, a
Nurse Practioner. Lisa says that she loved her training program at Great
Oaks because the faculty was "great, supportive, and always available to
answer any questions."
