Program Description: Great Oaks provides a continuum of options for students with special needs. There are over forty career and technical programs and students with special needs are enrolled in each of these programs. Transition to Work is a community based, on-the-job training program. These five programs serve students who remain at their affiliated school and continue to participate in special education programs. The programs are structured to develop individualized supported competencies:
q Participation in career exploration and work experience sites
q Development of resumes, interviewing, and other work readiness skills
q Development of a training plan that meets student needs, interests and skills
q Individualized job development and placement services
q Coordination of job coaching during the initial phases of the job
q Travel training facilitation or other independent transportation options
q Linkages to appropriate service agencies such as Rehabilitation Services Commission, County Boards of Mental Retardation/Developmental Disabilities, mental health counseling, etc.
q Follow along services in order to insure job retention and career advancement
Eligibility Criteria:
q Student must be on an IEP and in the last two years of high school
q Student must have independent transportation provided/coordinated
q Student must desire to work in the community
