Project SEARCH--for Students with Special Needs

Project SEARCH is a unique workforce development program designed for students with special needs.  Because the program is at a hospital or business, you will spend your school day at that site.  The program is a one-year program designed to provide you with a variety of worksite experiences in a business/ hospital setting.  During the school year you will rotate through three or four different jobs and learn the skills of that career.  Each experience will help build the skills you need for the world of work.  The goal of the program is a job at that business or somewhere in your local community.  While you attend Project SEARCH, you can earn three elective credits good toward your high school diploma.

A unique aspect of this program is mentoring from Xavier University education students.

Classroom Location: Gallagher Center on the main campus

  • Banquet Set Up
  • Student Recreation Center
  • Clerical support
  • Library  

Project SEARCH / Fifth Third Bank

Classroom location: Operations Center in Madisonville

Possible worksite experiences: (individualized for student strengths, abilities, and interests)

  • Clerical Support
  • Computer Processing
  • Check Processing
  • Loan Processing support
  • Mail Room work and delivery
  • Cafeteria work

Project SEARCH / Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center

Classroom location: 5th Floor Building E, main hospital campus

Possible worksite experiences: (individualized for student strengths, abilities, and interests)

  • Nurse server stocking
  • Stocking in a variety of departments   
  • Pickup/delivery of various hospital supplies
  • Pharmacy
  • Cafeteria: stocking
  • Clerical/Filing
  • Clinical sterilization
  • Patient transport and/or Family Escort
  • Environmental Services
  • Landscaping
  • Child Care

Project SEARCH / Clinton Memorial Hospital

Classroom location: CMH Regional Hospital 2nd Floor, Wilmington Ohio 

Possible worksite experiences: (individualized for student strengths, abilities, and interests)

  • Cafeteria: stocking, dishwashing   
  • Clerical/Filing in variety of departments
  • Distribution: Stocking supplies
  • Patient Care Assistant
  • Patient Activity Assistant
  • Sterile Processing
  • Environmental Services
  • IT Technical Support
  • Dental Clinic Aide
  • Rehabilitation Clinic Support Aide

Project SEARCH / Mercy Hospital/Western Hills

Classroom location: 6th Floor

Possible worksite experiences:  (individualized for student strengths, abilities, and interests)

  • Cafeteria: Tray line, dishwashing, stocking kitchenettes
  • Clerical/Filing in Human Resources and other departments
  • Environmental Services
  • Mercy Healthplex: locker rooms, maintaining exercise equipment, child care
  • Physical Therapy/Occupational Therapy support aide and transporter
  • Phlebotomy lab (specialized skill required)
  • Radiology and Pharmacy (specialized skill required)
