How Do I Apply?

How do I select a program?
Currently there are approximately 42 programs from which you can choose. Programming is ever-changing since we work with business and industry to identify local employment needs. In December and January of every year, Great Oaks has tour days where you are invited to visit two programs of interest. In January each campus has an evening Open House for you and parents to visit the campus and check out the programs. If you still aren't sure which program meets your needs, an appointment can be made with one of the Great Oaks career specialists for a personal tour. Parents are ALWAYS invited!

What courses should I take at my home school prior to enrolling at Great Oaks?
All Great Oaks students who are enrolled in a two-year program will take one English, math, science and social studies course each year. Students enrolled in a senior-only program will take English and social studies. Therefore, you should plan to have taken other home school requirements such as Health, Physical Education, Fine Arts, additional science or social studies credits prior to coming. A typical schedule provides 7 credits per year for a total of 14 credits after two years.

Once I've made my decision to attend Great Oaks, how do I apply?
First, get an application. If you visited our campuses, you should have received an application. Applications are also available in the Great Oaks guidance office, your home school guidance offices, and in the back of our catalog. You can also CLICK HERE to print one out. You and your parents will complete most of the application. Your application won’t be complete without your home school counselor. They can help you figure out a program where you will be most successful. They can also help you make sure you have taken the right classes to stay on track for graduation (your academic history). Your counselor's signature and your parent’s signature must be on the application prior to submitting it to Great Oaks.

Why do I have to select two programs on my application?
You have an opportunity to select two programs of choice. If your first choice is full but your second choice is open, you will be placed in your second choice and put on a waiting list for your first choice. If an opening occurs in your first choice and you are the next person on the list, you will be notified of the change. Changes can be made through the first nine days of the school year. Most students get into their program of choice by that time. If you are only interested in one particular program and a second choice is not indicated, your application will be processed accordingly.

How does placement into programs occur?
Students enter programs on a first-come, first-served basis. Programs often fill quickly and it is important to apply early. As programs fill, your past grades become very important. Therefore, all students should be striving for as high a G.P.A. as possible during their 9th and 10th grade years!
