The Great Oaks’ Police Academy offers over 600 hours of police training under the direction of a State Certified Police Academy Commander.  Students must pass the Physical Fitness Standards test and the State Written Examination to be eligible for certification in Ohio.

 

Successful completion of this course and passing the Ohio Peace Officer Certificate Examination entitle you to certification in the State of Ohio by the Ohio Peace Officer Training Commission, visit www.agohio.org for more information.  This certification is the gateway to inclusion in a class of individuals who are sought by many police recruiters.  This program is accredited by OPOTA, Ohio Peace Officers Training Academy.  This program is accredited by North Central Association, www.ncacasi.org.

Length of course:  725 hours

 

Days/Times:  Day Academy:  Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM (18 weeks)

                   Evening Academy:  Monday-Friday, 5:00 PM to 9:30 PM (29 weeks)

 

Start date:  Day Academy:  August 2008    End date:   Day Academy:  November 2008

 

Start Date:  Evening Academy: January 2009  End Date:   Evening Academy:  July 2009

 

Tuition:  $4,000.00

 

Uniforms/Equipment:  $800.00 (estimated)

 

Total:  $4,800.00 (estimated)

 

According to the Department of Labor, “Job opportunities in most local police departments will be excellent for qualified individuals.  Employment of police and detectives is expected to grow 11% over the 2006-16 decade.  Overall opportunities in local departments will be excellent for individuals who meet the psychological, personal and physical qualifications.”

 

According to the Department of Labor, “Police and sheriff’s patrol officers had median annual earnings of $47,460 in May 2006.  The middle 50% earned between $35,600 and $59,880.”
