OH-941 --Laurel Oaks Career Development Campus and AFROTC Det 665 begin a bond
Another autumn college tour visit for 31 high school juniors and seniors took on a special "Air Force blue" experience for these career tech students enrolled in one of AFJROTC's few vocational high school programs in the nation. Hosted by the University of Cincinnati's AFROTC Det 665 cadre, GMC and POC, the younger cadets from OH-941 at Laurel Oaks Career Development Campus located in Wilmington, Ohio received a welcoming University admissions briefing, an AFROTC scholarship briefing from Major Roy Caldwell, Unit Admissions Officer and personal reflections by the cadet staff in attendance. A campus tour (in the rain) and a generous pizza luncheon (provided by the Detachment) were enjoyed by all.
In January, Det 665 undergraduates will journey to JROTC's home turf of Wilmington (two hours east from Cincinnati) to help judge the junior ROTC exhibition color guard meet scheduled on 22 January. Both the senior and junior units are developing opportunities for cadets to meet and share through different venues during the upcoming academic years. This partnership to create experiential learning moments or Undergraduate role modeling opportunities and cohort guidance may prove helpful to the junior cadets, who are beginning to ponder their after high school life decisions and to the future officers too, who may be leading teenagers after their commission.
