Success Story:

Cathy Kindel is a summer of 2003 GED recipient.  Cathy was forced to quit school in the ninth grade.  It was a decision that would haunt her for many years to come.  Cathy said, “Coming back to school after my previous experience was not easy, but it was different this time.  I felt the people around me really cared.”  Cathy realized she was not alone and admired her fellow students for their desire to improve their academic skills.  Math was the most difficult subject for Cathy, but with the help of her tutor she began to master the needed concepts.

The GED was only the beginning for Cathy.  She had always dreamed of pursuing her nursing degree.  She loved the idea of helping others.  Cathy plans on attending the Licensed Practical Nursing Program at Scarlet Oaks.  Receiving her GED gave her the confidence to realize her goals.

Orientation for Adult Basic and Literacy Education Classes are held periodically at Scarlet, Live, and Diamond Oaks.  After completion, students may attend classes that are offered Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursdays from 9:30 a.m. – 12 :00 p.m. and/or 6:30 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. When a student is ready, they may take the practice GED test and qualify for a fee waiver and application for a free test.
