Carpentry - Qualified Framer






Gain skills such as cutting rafters and stairs, wall layout, production techniques that meet industry standards and quality, and construction site safety.  Shop related instruction includes blueprint reading, estimating, and construction related math.  Co-op is available to eligible students.  Approximately 80% of class hours spent on construction site.  The program is sponsored by The Home Builders Association of Greater Cincinnati, www.cincybuilders.com, and it provides a $10.00 daily stipend for the first 20-weeks of the program.  Students making satisfactory academic progress are eligible to co-op with a local employer during the last 10-weeks of the program.  Students can waive the co-op option and continue hands-on training.  Students will continue to receive the daily stipend.  This program is accredited by North Central Association, www.ncacasi.org.

Tuition:  $6,150.00 beginning 7/1/08

 

Tools, Books & NCCER transcripts, National Center for Construction Education and Research, www.nccer.org: $260.00 (estimated)

 

Total:  $6,410.00 (estimated)

 

Carpentry: Qualified Framer graduates may be eligible for up to 22 credit hours at Hocking College, www.hocking.edu, toward an Associate Degree in Construction Management.  Additional Hocking College questions can be directed to Frank Barker, barkerf@yahoo.com.

 

Job Outlook for Carpenters:  According to the Department of Labor, “employment for carpenters is expected to increase 10% during the 2006-2016 decade, about as fast as average for all occupations.”

 

Wages for Carpenters: In May 2006, median hourly earnings of wages and salary for carpenters were $17.57.  The middle 50% earned between $13.55 and $23.85 per hour.
