Anatomy/Physiology
This course includes the study of the shape and structure of the human body, essential and characteristic life processes, activities and functions necessary for life. Vital activities in cells, tissues and organs, as well as the impact of diseases on certain systems will be studied through laboratory work and computer technology.
Biochemistry
This course emphasizes the chemistry of biological substances and processes. Students will examine advances made in biotechnology and the research opportunities in agriculture and nutrition. Course content includes the nature of chemistry, atomic structure, chemical formulas and bonding, chemical reactions and equations, solubility and precipitation, carbohydrates, lipids, proteins, and nucleic acids. Students will be engaged in laboratory activities and research.
Chemistry
This course emphasizes applications relative to the fundamentals of chemistry. Topics such as the nature of chemistry, molecular bonds, heat transfer, chemical reactions, heat in chemical reactions, gasses, liquids and solids are included. Laboratory sessions will give the students an opportunity to explore these topics.
Environmental Science
This course covers topics that support relationships between science and the environment, including ecosystems, biogeography, agriculture, forests, parks, landscape, wildlife and endangered species, energy basics, water resources, pollution and waste management, and global warming. Students will be engaged in laboratory work and utilize computer technology.
Physics
This course emphasizes the study of mechanical, fluid, electrical and thermal systems. Laboratory work allows students to observe and analyze physical phenomena as they relate to physical laws and concepts. Force transformers, momentum, waves, energy converters, transducers, radiation, light and optical systems are among the concepts that will be studied.
Comprehensive Science
In this course students will study topics in physical science, earth and space science, and life science. The course is designed to prepare students for successful completion of the science section of the Ohio Graduation Test. Content will be based on the state standards for science. Students will conduct laboratory activities.
