Most of Great Oaks programs are two-year programs, beginning in a student's junior year of high school. However, a few programs are available for high school seniors. These options are Career Preparation offerings. Other options include Technical Preparation and Career Exploration. The Technical Preparation option provides students with the opportunity to gain skills and insight in an occupational area by participating in the career and technical lab for two years. The Career Exploration option provides students with the opportunity to participate in the career and technical lab for one year in order to learn more about an occupational field that is of interest to them. In both instances, students take all other courses at the affiliated school. Students who participate in these options receive a Certificate of Technical Preparation or a Certificate of Career Exploration from Great Oaks.

Yes, Great Oaks programs are open to students with special needs. Students who are on an Individualized Education Program (IEP) or have a 504 plan participate in Career Assessment during ninth or tenth grade to give them, their parents and home school personnel career planning information. The IEP and/or 504 team can utilize this information to choose an appropriate career and technical program that meets the student’s interests and abilities. Students with a disability have the support of a Special Needs Coordinator to monitor the IEP, arrange for adaptations and modifications in class, and give additional assistance. Teachers have experience working with students who have special needs and can make modifications as necessary. Students with more significant challenges have access to these programs: Horticulture Operations program at Diamond Oaks; Hotel Operations program at Scarlet Oaks; Restaurant Operations program at Laurel Oaks, Live Oaks and Glen Este High School.

Some programs require that students purchase safety gear, tools, uniforms, and/or workbooks. As students use many of the same materials for their junior and senior years, the fees for senior year are minimal. Upon graduation, students keep all of their materials.
