The Great Oaks Police Academy offers over 650 hours of police training. Successful completion of this course and a passing score of 70% or higher on the final state examination will entitle you to certification by the Ohio Peace Officer Training Commission in the State of Ohio.
Over 90% of the graduates of the Police Academy find employment in the field of law enforcement after graduation. For the past four years, the Great Oaks Police Academy has received awards of excellence for exceeding high performance standards for job placement established by the Ohio Department of Education, Division of Career-Technical and Adult Education.
Students of the Great Oaks Police Academy must possess a valid operator's license, be of good moral character, have a high school diploma or equivalent, and be 21 years of age by the completion of the course. Students must achieve a physical fitness standard set by the Ohio Peace Officer Commission. Students must submit to a criminal background check and be free of any convictions of domestic violence, felony of violence, or illegal use, possession, sale, administration, distribution or trafficking in a drug of abuse.
The evening academy begins in January and runs through July while the day academy begins in August and runs through November. Tuition is $3600.00 (Includes Criminal Code Book, handouts and ammunition). Students are responsible for the purchase of uniforms required by this program.
