Great Oaks Education Foundation Scholarship/Grant Recipients

Great Oaks Education Foundation Scholarship and Grant Recipients Class of 2005

 

The Great Oaks Education Foundation provided $14,300 in scholarships in scholarships and grants to help 25 graduates of the Class of 2005 continue their educations and further their careers. 

 

 

A $1000 scholarship is awarded to the top rated student in memory of Donn Hershberger and in recognition of his family’s support of the district.  Donn represented the Sycamore School District on the Great Oaks Board of Education for many years. The individual who earns this award best exemplifies the characteristics Mr. Hershberger stressed as important to success.

 

At the Live Oaks campus, a scholarship was given in memory of Sam Bateman, a member and president of the Great Oaks Board of Education, and a member of the Ohio House of Representatives.   

 

Diamond Oaks Scholarship Recipients

 

Clint Haffey - Clint is from North College Hill and the Equine Science and Management program. He is planning to attend Hocking College in the Backcountry Horsemanship program and take advantage of the articulation agreement, which provides up to 19 credits. Clint also participated in the Postsecondary Options: English program while at Diamond Oaks. He is planning a career in recreation management.

 

Tiffany Turner - Tiffany is from Three Rivers and the Information Support Services program. Tiffany will start her postsecondary education at Miami Hamilton, where she’ll be working toward a bachelor degree in Business Administration. Her long-range goals are to obtain a position as an administrator, earn an MBA and become a business technology instructor.

 

Courtney Yoho - Courtney is from Oak Hills and the Information Support Services program. Courtney plans to attend the College of Mt. Saint Joseph and earn a bachelor degree. After that, she hopes to earn an MBA at a school in Chicago and become a CPA.   

 

 Diamond Oaks Grant Recipients

 

Ceair Baggett - Ceair is from Taft High School and the Sales and Marketing program. His immediate goal is to earn a bachelor degree and become a teacher, and eventually go into school administration. Through Student Venture, which is the high school and junior high ministry of Campus Crusade for Christ, Ceair has been to Africa twice. These were tremendous learning opportunities for him. “On my journeys over there, I learned that their schools are poor, but students are actually learning a lot more than students in our school systems. I believe it is because of the teachers and because the students are more grateful for what they do have,” he said.

 

Ashley Kittle - Ashely is from Mt. Healthy and the Equine Science and Management program. She is planning to earn a degree in criminology at the Ohio State University and then go to law school.

 

Garrett O’Leary - Garrett is from Oak Hills and the Manufacturing Technologies program. Garrett has been in the Diamond Oaks Marine JROTC program and started his placement position at an aerospace plant over a year ago. He earned three promotions during that time. He wants to go into the Navy or get a union job in industry.

 

Laurel Oaks Scholarship Recipients

 

Neil Myers - Neil is from East Clinton and the Agricultural/Industrial/Diesel Mechanics program. He’ll attend the University of Northwestern Ohio to earn an associate’s degree in diesel technology. He’d like to have the opportunity and skills to become a field service technician. “In twenty years I hope to be an owner and operator of a diesel mechanic shop serving agricultural and heavy duty trucks and equipment,” said Neil.

 

Emily Kincaid - Emily is from Greenfield and the Early Childhood Education program. She will attend Southern State Community College, majoring in early childhood education so that she can become a pre-school teacher.

 

Tyler Erskine - Tyler is from Washington Court House and the Automotive Technology program. He is planning to get and associate’s degree in automotive technology and specialize in the areas of high performance and alternative fuels.

 

Laurel Oaks Grant Recipients

 

Brittany Brinson - Brittany is from Lynchburg-Clay and the Equine Science and Management program. She will study equine therapy at Hocking College or Midway College, with the goal of creating a business that cares for neglected or abused horses.

 

Andrea Rife - Andrea is from Washington Court House and the Early Childhood Education program. She plans to attend college to prepare for a career as a pre-kindergarten through third grade teacher.

 

Robyn Robinette - Robyn is from Clinton Massie and the Cosmetology program. Robyn is going to use her grant and her skills to help pay for a college degree in fine arts.

 

Live Oaks Scholarship Recipients

 

Cambria Buckley - Cambria is from Madeira and the Health Technology program. Cambria will attend Cincinnati State Technical and Community College, where she will be able to take advantage of the articulation agreements that are in place. Her career goal is to become a registered nurse. Andrea was a Tech-Prep student and took the Postsecondary Options: English program.

 

Elizabeth Buschmeier - Elizabeth is from Mariemont and the E-Marketing program. She will pursue a bachelor degree in business administration, after which she may work towards an MBA.  “I plan on becoming a member in the sales and marketing workforce. My love for selling was ignited in me as a child and is burning now more than ever before. I currently do not have a complete idea of what selling industry I want to get into, but I anticipate what my future holds,” said Elizabeth.

 

Heather Distler - Heather is from Ameila and the Early Childhood Education program. Heather will study early childhood education at U.C. Clermont College. Her goal is to work to open her own day care facility in the future. 

 

Live Oaks Grant Recipients

 

Nick Chowning - Nick is from Milford and the Construction Framing and Finishing Technologies program. Nick is planning on studying IT in college. He has not nailed his goals down exactly, but he is considering the IT field as a construction planner/estimator. “As I begin this new chapter of my life, I am sure that I will be able to go to from undecided to decided on my final career choice. Life is a journey that I plan to enjoy all along the way while at the same time becoming a responsible adult,” said Nick.  

 

Edward Hundemer - Edward is from Amelia and the Automotive Technology program. Edward will attend Wyotech, which is in Pennsylvania. Ed says that he has dreamed of attending Wyotech since he was twelve years old! The effort he put forth to maintain an A average for his senior year as well as perfect attendance for two years has been worth it. At Wyotech, he will earn an associate degree in business as he specializes in auto body collision and repair, upholstery and trim. After that, he’ll work for an auto body shop and eventually own his own business.

 

 Katherine Hadley - Katherine is from Loveland and the Cosmetology program. Katherine will attend Wright State University, where she plans to earn a bachelor degree in business. Her dream is to be able to open her own upscale salon in the future.

 

Sam Bateman* Scholarship (Live Oaks)

*Sam Bateman represented the Milford Board of Education on the Great Oaks Board for several years, and he served as a member of the Ohio House of Representatives from the 66th District. His family has arranged to have a scholarship awarded to a Live Oaks student in his honor.

 

Stacy Bryan - Stacy is from Anderson, where she is in the Marketing Management and Research program. Stacy will student business administration at Miami University. After she completes that, she will work for an advertising firm and continue her education by working toward a master’s degree in advertising/marketing because she believes that having the highest degree in her field will give her the best chance of realizing her dream job, which is to be an advertising executive for a successful clothing brand.

 

Scarlet Oaks Scholarship Recipients

 

Joshua Potter - Joshua is from Milford and the Oracle Internet Academy. Joshua is planning to study computer programming in college and pursue a career in the video game industry. He has earned high honors and is the Hershberger Scholarship winner.

 

Ryan McMullen - Ryan is from Winton Woods, where he was in the Sports Marketing program. He will major in marketing at the University of Cincinnati. “I want to open my own business where I could employ many people and also help other businesses fabricate many promotional and advertising plans. By opening my own business, I could employ many young people right out of college and also those with business experience. I appreciate all that my community has given me, and I want to give back to it in some way,” said Ryan.

 

Katie Loth - Katie is from Deer Park and the Early Childhood Education Program. She wants to be a lead teacher at a daycare center or a school. She will attend Raymond Walters College to prepare for this.

 

Scarlet Oaks Grant Recipients

 

Maxince Curry - Maxince is from Princeton and the Cosmetology program. Maxince plans to earn a bachelor degree in early childhood education so that she can become an elementary school teacher. She will work as a cosmetologist while achieving this goal.

 

Tiffany Love - Tiffany is from Winton Woods and the Dental Assisting program. Tiffany will study physical therapy at Tennessee State University.  

 

Jodie Dandridge - Jodie is from Winton Woods and the Early Childhood Education program. She will work toward a bachelor degree in child psychology at Cincinnati State, after which she intends to begin working on a master’s degree.
