Notice about CARES Act:

Great Oaks Career Campuses applied for and received funding from the CARES Act: Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund as made available by the U.S. Department of Education.  By signing and returning the Certification and Agreement to the Department of Education, Great Oaks has assured that the institution has used, or intends to use, no less than fifty  percent of the funds received under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act to provide Emergency Financial Aid Grants to students.  This grant will be paid in three increments, the first of which will be paid in full to students enrolled in our full time adult education programs.  Increment one from Section 18004(a)(1) totals $166,050.00; increment two from Section 18004(c) totals $166,049.00; increment three from Section 18004(a)(3) has not been paid but will total $167,901.00.  The use of increments two and three will vary based on stipulations in the grant; some funding may be made available to cover additional needs of students enrolled in our full time adult education programs while other monies are allocated for institutional expenses incurred due to Covid-19.  All students enrolled in our full time adult education programs were given the opportunity to complete a request for funding which included the following questions:  Have you applied for or been exempt from Selective Service?  Have you incurred additional expenses due to Covid-19? Do you agree to use the funds in a manner that complies with the CARES Act Fund guidelines?  Students were instructed on the following criteria for the use of the Emergency Financial Aid Grants, “The guidelines set forth by the department of education are: “On April 9th the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act was signed into law.  This act allows for additional funds to be made available to post-secondary students whose education and lives have been disrupted because of Covid-19…These funds may be used to help cover expenses related to the disruption of campus operations due to coronavirus including food, housing, course materials, technology, health care, and child care.”  On May 20, 2020 182 checks each in the amount of $920.00 were distributed to full time adult education students.  As of that date there were 201 full time adult education students an estimated 120 of those students had previously qualified for federal financial aid.  This is a total distribution of $167,440.00.

Update 7.10.2020

On May 21, 2020 the U.S. Department of Education updated their guidelines for student eligibility.  This qualified all 201 full time adult education students for the grant money.

On June 3, 2020 an additional 14 checks each in the amount of $920.00 were distributed to full time adult education students.  This is a total distribution of $180,320.00.  Any remaining full time adult education students declined the funds.

Update 9.1.2020

Great Oaks is in the process of reporting additional incurred expenses and revenue losses due to Covid-19.  As of this update some additional expenses include but are not limited to:  the purchase of PPE supplies, classroom modifications to ensure social distancing guidelines are met, the purchase of additional technology equipment, the cost to transition from in-person to online classes and then to a hybrid model.  Unexpected revenue losses due to Covid-19 include but are not limited to:  facility rental cancellations, class size reductions to allow for social distancing and cancelled classes.

Update 4.1.2021

On December 27, 2020, the President signed the Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act, 2021 (CRRSAA).  This new law gave the U.S. Department of Education additional funding to distribute to institutions of higher education in order to prevent, prepare for, and respond to coronavirus through the Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund (HEERF).  [REFERENCE OPE-HEP-01142021-01]

Great Oaks Career Campuses was awarded $528,952.00 through CRRSAA, of which $166,050.00 must be awarded in student grants.

All students enrolled in a certificated adult education program from February 22, 2021 through December 31, 2021 will be given the opportunity to apply for a portion of these funds.  Awards will be granted based on a rubric system and until such time as the funds are fully expended.  The application can be accessed here.  The rubric can be viewed here.

As of March 31, 2021 $121,000.00 has been dispersed to 114 students in increments of $500.00, $1,000.00 or $1,500.00.  It is estimated that approximately 900 students will be eligible to apply for a grant during the established time frame.  Of which an estimated 250 will qualify for federal financial aid.

Update 7.1.2021

On March 22, 2021, President Biden signed the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 (ARP).  Like the two previous acts, this new law provides funds to the Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund (HEERF) to be appropriated for the prevention, preparedness and response to Coronavirus.

Great Oaks will be receiving $929,368.00 through ARP, of which $464,684.00 must be awarded in student grants.

All students enrolled in a certificated adult education program from March 13, 2020 through December 31, 2021 will be given the opportunity to apply for a portion of these funds.  Awards will be granted based on a rubric system and until such time as the funds are fully expended.  Due to the increase in available funds, the rubric was updated to be able to provide larger amounts to those students who qualify.  The updated rubric can be viewed here.

Between April 1 and June 30, 2021 $105,000.00 was dispersed to 101 students in increments of $500.00, $1,000.00, $1,500.00 or $2,500.00.  Additional grants will be awarded as funds become available to Great Oaks.

Update 10.1.2021

Between July 1 and September 30, 2021 $132,500.00 was dispersed to 102 students in increments of $500.00, $1,000.00, $1,500.00 or $2,500.00.  Awarding of grants is ongoing.

Update 12.31.2021

Between October 1, 2021 and December 31, 2021 $99,000.00 was dispersed to 70 students in increments of $500.00, $1,000.00, $1,500.00 or $2,500.00.  Awarding of grants is ongoing.

Update 3.31.2022

Between January 1, 2022 and March 31, 2022 $26,000.00 was dispersed to 24 students in increments of $500.00, $1,000.00, $1,500.00 or $2,500.00.  Awarding of grants is ongoing.

Update 6.30.2022

Between April 1, 2022 and May 10, 2022 $46,500.00 was dispersed to 38 students in increments of $500.00, $1,000.00, $1,500.00 or $2,500.00.  

On May 11, 2022 $157,684.00 was dispersed to 218 students in increments of $450.00, $625.00, $750.00, $850.00 and $950.00.  The funds were awarded to all current academic year students that had applied for a Cares Grant.  The amounts were dependent on the original rubric and awarded as additional amounts to the original grants.

All student funds have been dispersed at this time.  This is the final report.
